Avalanche Rescue Dogs
The Avalanche Rescue Dog Program at Crystal Mountain has been active for nearly 30 years. Since its start, professional ski patrollers at Crystal have trained search dogs to use as a resource during an avalanche response. Over the decades, working dogs from several generations have played a key role in both recovery and response. In 2017, the program transitioned to a non-profit to provide a stronger platform for handler education, positive reinforcement dog training, and high quality avalanche response.
We are a 501 (c) 3 organization and rely on fundraising and donations to support the dogs. Here is how you can support us.
You can find our dogs actively working with ski patrollers at Crystal Mountain Resort. We are also ready for a backcountry response in the mountains of Washington.
CMRD supports the training and care of rescue dogs to be ready for avalanche response anywhere in Washington State.
